An alternative to iTunes? Surely not …
ByJust not cool!
In many things I’m afraid I’m just not Mr Cool.
I prefer not to follow convention – and in this case it applies to the way I download and listen to my podcasts.
I never went for the iTunes option … for my sounds or my player.
I’m not saying that won’t change in the future, but for now I’m set in my ways.
Very quickly I settled on Napster as my favourite source of music downloads.
I also went completely ‘off grid’ and bought a player that’ll play wma files and mp3 files, but that no-one will have ever heard of.
So where do you get your podcasts if you don’t go down the iTunes route?
You go to myPodder
My-what?
myPodder … which you’ll find on the Podcast Ready website.
Take a look at the promo video:
Podcast Ready makes the whole process of locating and downloading podcasts extremely easy.
myPodder allows you to run its software directly from your mp3 player without being tied to a single computer.
You plug your player into any computer, launch myPodder and click the “download podcasts” button.
Once the downloads are complete just unplug your player and take it with you.
What’s more it’s free and it offers an extensive selection of podcasts, including for instance, the entire repertoire of BBC podcasts. There’s even a version for the Mac!
myPodder is where I discovered among many other things the series of TWiT podcasts featuring the brilliant Leo Laporte and Amber MacArthur, which I heartily recommend to you if you like discovering new teccie stuff that’s useful for making and improving websites.
So, no hard sell with this, if you like listening to podcasts, give myPodder a try, most people I speak to have never heard of it.
And if you’ve found any other great alternatives to iTunes, or if you have ant great iTunes tips, please pass them on in the comments section.
