I’ve been making use of a couple of really useful websites at work today, so I thought I’d share them in my blog.
They’re great URLs to have up your sleeve when:
a) you’ve got really big files that you want to pass on, like audio or video
b) you’ve been sent a weird file type and you don’t have the right software to open it up
Zamzar … convert weird files
First of all, Zamzar is free.
That’s always a good start as far as I’m concerned.
You can pay if you want, but to be honest, I’ve been using this site for well over a year now and I’ve never needed to go for the paid option as I’ve never converted more than 100MB.
You can convert all sorts of image, document, video and audio formats … and they’ve even added some ‘others’ like zip files for good measure.
You simply browse to the file you want to convert, select what you want to convert it to in the drop down menu, enter the email address you want the file link sent to and then click the ‘convert’ button.
That’s all there is to it.
Great site, really simple, and it’s helped me out on a number of occasions … add it to your favourites for an emergency.
Sendthisfile
Ever needed to send a very large file – from work perhaps - where the size of emails is restricted?
It can be a real pain when you need to get a file sent to someone – or somewhere – and your IT just won’t play ball.
Enter sendthisfile.com, another one of those simple but brilliant URLS designed to make life easier.
sendthisfile.com does just that.
Did I mention that the basic package is free?
Enter the recipient’s name, browse to the file you want to send, click the sendthisfile button.
That’s all there is to it.
There are no file size limits but free accounts are limited to downloading 3 files (daily as far as I can tell) and you do have to register.
There are brandable enterprise plans and a variety of subscriptions which offer all sorts of upgrades.
The more you pay, the bigger the upload size, the greater the download allowance, the longer the files can be kept on the servers and the faster it can all be delivered.
Once again, add it to your favourites or tuck it away somewhere safe, this site has really helped me out on a number of occasions now.
